Tech Delusion
My fascination with Veronica Mars led me to the website TVgasm, where I found this clip from Survivor-- a show I've never watched. What an imagination.

Quiet Santa Cruz
This week, I'm housesitting on the Westside. I had no idea how quiet it was out there. When I look at postcards like the ones below, I try to imagine what it sounded like. More...

April in Santa Cruz Right Now
I just took a nap in a redwood circle. Now I'm back at my desk at work. The weather is so beautiful right now that it is a sin not to be outside having sex. I'm going to hell.

Newspaper Reunion
My undergraduate years at UCSC were about working at City on a Hill, an alternative weekly newspaper that just happened to be put together by a collective of college students. I finished a major, but school was just something to get through because I was going to be a writer. I found my art and my friends at that newspaper. If you've read City on a Hill recently, please know that it was much better then. It was the best college weekly in the country, but we are never to see anything like it again. At the 40th Anniversary Reunion last weekend, I found out why. More...

Earth Day Round Up
Chuck Perry put together some photos and links for Earth Day. It's intended for an audience of college students who have been hearing about The Environment for their entire lives.

Family Vacation
A few weeks ago I wrote about wanting to join my uncles on a cruise, celebrating their fifty years together. I decided to just borrow the money and go. You just can't miss out on these experiences in life, can you? More...

Another Look into English's Future
Last week I found a link to the Engrish site. Mirabilis pointed me toward an emerging London dialect. "The traditional cockney accent is being replaced by a mixture of ethnic influences," she says. "Young people are increasingly exposed to accents from West Africa, Bangladesh, India and South America, and this is leading to different vowel sounds."

Good Friday
Christians are celebrating the death of their god this week--I mean his defeat of death, and co-incidently I was re-reading some "trialogues" of Ralph Abraham, Rupert Sheldrake, and Terence McKenna in "The Evolutionary Mind." In the first essay. Sheldrake refers to a speculation by Barbara Ehrenreich about the origins of these sacrificial religions traditions. More...

The Best Part
Another reason why I haven't been writing much is because I become fascinated by a new TV show. I watched the entire season of Veronica Mars on dvd. Now I'm watching the second season on VHS taped from Tivo. In the second episode, a character said something that I can't get out of my head. More...

Reeling Through Hollywood by Dan Bessie
"Fame only shadowed my doorstep. It never rang the bell." I just finished "Reeling Through Hollywood" by Dan Bessie. I met Dan years ago when he made a little movie for the Dickens Project, where I worked. We stayed in touch over the years. I loved his book about his family, Rare Birds, and have been looking forward to him finishing the memoir of his career. I knew that he had worked in Hollywood, but never knew the details. More...

New Mushrooms
There are a few reasons why I haven't been writing much. One is that my camera broke around December and I haven't bought another one. But last week I found some mushrooms so amazing that I borrowed a camera and went back to share them. More...

English of the Future
I won't live to see it, so I like to see glimpses of what English, my favorite and only language, will become as it keeps growing and growing to be what Latin was 1000 years ago. I just found out about the "Engrish" website, and really like the April 1 posting.

Cave Art from the Boys' Room
This seems so plausible, and since an emeritus professor has said it, it might be taken seriously: Most cave art is the simple doodling of male teens.
