Wit
Usually, I don't watch the Cobert Report, but I do try to catch Dan Savage when he's on TV.

Harsh
Every month, the UCSC Police department publishes a crime summary (pdf). The summary for October included: "Three affiliates were arrested for misusing parking placards." ARRESTED. I can understand that if you get caught doctoring your scratch-off you'd be fined, and TAPS would tell you you can never, ever park at UCSC until the end of time. But arrested. Wow. I wonder what the story is there. This is the sort of thing that makes me dream about starting a UCSC newspaper once I'm retired. I'd be able to investigate this. I'm too dang curious.

Bookish Women

A Bob Dylan Blog
So, I was trying to remember that song, that Dylan song, about the friends? I have no idea what it is about, but it's sort of talky and I don't understand it naturally, but it seems to be about how the friendships you have in your early twenties seem like they will last forever, and then by the time you're thirty you have a completely new set of friends and you're like "Oh god, I'm so glad I didn't marry that person? Can you imagine?" More...

Another Name for It
T.J's was packed at 5 pm. I had to park clear over at Longs. But even with the crowd, I felt jolly; I found a pretty bouquet that used a few staffs of wheat. When I stood in line, I caught the eye of a two-year-old. More...
