The world has a new edition of John Chase's "Sidewalk Companion to Santa Cruz Architecture" to enjoy, and Saturday I went to the booksigning.
That's John in front of me, and Judy Steen, the new edition's editor, to his left. I was happy to hear that it was back in print--abebooks.com has some book sellers charging $75 for the second 1979 edition. Those of us who love Santa Cruz refer back to Chase again and again.
We were told at the booksigning that Chase has assigne copyright of the book to the Museum of Art and History--this means that it will continue to be updated. He also donated his original research notes to the archives.
I was completely surprised to see my own local history project mentioned in the book. Dang. Now I have to finish it.
