I've been trying to figure out how to pay for the cruise with my uncles to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Some friends have suggested I just start asking strangers to help me out. You know, posting on GLBT message boards and blogs that it is my uncle's dream to have me with them, and if they want to support gay marriage in a real way, please send $10 to my paypal address. (lindarosewood@earthlink.net). But I have a problem.
I would give $25 to help someone out this way--and I have--but I find it impossible to ask for myself. There are children in Watsonville who need dental care, and Land Trusts in San Mateo County who need my money to protect the coast, and friends who make half of what I do and could use a free beer. So who am I to ask people for money?
But I know that people like to give to what they like to give money to, and they like to give because it feels good. And making a dream vacation come true for two loving uncles does make people feel good, doesn't it?
In the meantime, here's the magazine cover.
