I was finally able to visit one of the three remaining San Francisco cemeteries a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, I arrived too late in the day to enter, so I'll have to return to the Columbarium another day.
I heard about the Columbarium on the Sparkletack podcast. Currently the show is on break, but more than fifty of the old shows are still available. Sparkletack is a 30- to 60-minute show about San Francisco's interesting people, places, and events. Most of the shows are about events of the past.
The show about the Columbarium is one of the best, and it followed a related show about the history of San Francisco's cemeteries. Not only can you listen to the podcast, but the website for each show always has lots of links to the sources.
The address of the Columbarium is "1 Lorraine Court," which is a cul-de-sac off Anza between Arguello and Stanyon. On the Sparkletack website you can see a photograph of the Columbarium as it was when it was surrounded by a cemetery instead of 1920s housing developments.
