I went to a meeting today where I had plenty of opportunity to compile the following list: What I would rather be doing than be here right now.
Doing anything at all with my wife.
At the library looking up microfilm
Finishing the local history project
Refiling household paperwork, and generally cleaning up the home office
Trying to get rid of the green reclining chair. Call someone. List on eBay.
Calling people to sign union authorization cards
Riding around the county exploring old roads and towns
Recruiting someone to do the new employee orientations for the union
Getting the new laptop in shape for everyday use.
Learning how to kayak
Exploring the Delta in a houseboat with plenty of ice and gin
Arranging all the camping gear
Camping
Cleaning up the backyard. Cleaning out the basement
Listing all the stuff you should be selling on eBay
Tossing out or give away all those old art supplies. And organize the thread and fabric that's left.
Get working on some great needlepoint project
Exploring Europe
Having a beer with any of about twenty friends I never get to spend enough time with.
Eating a cinnamon roll
Painting the truck
Exploring getting and equity loan so we can build a fence, hot tub, deck, and remodel the bathroom
Learning how to digitize home movies and make DVDs
Reading the annotated Huckleberry Finn
Taking a hard walk in the forest
Doing origami, a really hard one
Getting rid of all those old teeshirts
Learning latin
Embroidering a garden using that book of patterns you bought last year and never went back too
Building and octagon shed or playhouse or whatever
I also conservatively estimated everyone's annual salary, and did the long division to find out that we were paid about $3000 an hour to participate in that meeting, or about $15,000. Plus they bought lunch.
