The Sentinel today reported that crime statistics are available at santacruzpolice.com. That URL is owned by the city, but it wasn't in service this morning. The stats were at this site.
The crime maps are only available for October 2003, but they do confirm what I thought was true: more home burglaries on the West Side, more car burglaries on the East Side (Branchiforte) and more assaults Downtown.
Annual stats are only available from 2000 to 2002, so one can't really make a determination of trends, but arson has doubled, and larceny is steeply rising. Aggravated assault appears to be falling.
