I love representational, emotional, and political public art. That's why I love the statue of David of Sassoon at Tulare and M streets in Fresno.
D is a photographer who told me that later in the day would be a better time to photograph David, but this is the best I could do that morning.
David of Sassoon is an Armenian folk hero who liberated his country from Oppressors, but as the dedication plaque states, this statue is about a thousand Davids in a thousand lands who "sought to sustain freedom."
The base of the statue is easier to photograph, with its fantasy of symbols and images.
We liked David so much we ate lunch there (from Nina's) and planned the next few stops of the day. We headed off to find a bust of William Saroyan at a theatre, but this was not the last we would see of David of Sassoon.
