Cute Casino Postcard

Here's a cute postcard of the old casino taken while a train passed under the arch to the Del Rey Hotel.

I love how the arch is smudged with the smoke from the trains. There appear to be two rails; I'll guess the one near the sidewalk is the streetcar. The bay-windowed building on the left with a restaurent on the ground floor looks much like "Positively Front Street" once did.

Here's what is written on the back of the card, postmarked September 9, 1912.

Came here in the auto today. had a most enjoyable trip. Wish you were with us. There is a fine Merry-go-round here. We started for San Jose and surprised ourselves by coming here. Love to all, M.

Sent to Miss Claire Graham, 2601 Kay St, Sacramento, California.

They drove from Sacramento to Santa Cruz in a day. In 1912. I'd love to go back in time and take that trip.
