I'm moving my blog.

I decided to move my blog to WordPress. I should be able to get the DNS configured so that moremadonnalessjesus.org points to the new blog. All the old entries will still be available at tineleyspice.org--until I decide to do something else with them. I'm beginning my sixth year of keeping an on-line journal. I had no idea I'd be doing it this long. When I compare the coding I need to do to work with this...

What makes me laugh

So, for example (see below), rather than sending this to a friend, I'll post this. This morning a colleague and I were discussing the UI (user interface) of a crucial application that we support. It is made by Sun, Inc, a once highly-respected computer company that grew too big and ruined itself. Eventually everyone at the university will interact with this application. We've always hated it. We encounter stupid design errors and terrible UI bugs that take months to fix. We regularly...

Are blogs over?

Wired says they are. They are because what is written in personal blogs like mine never show up on google searches, so, without a large audience, it is better to just keep in touch with friends via social networking sites and twitter, etc. This blog hasn't captured my attention in the last six months, but that has more to do with the fact that I have a more active social life than I did when I was married, and I bounce my ideas off and tell my stories to real, live friends.

Captain

My dog Captain died last week. She was 17 and a half years old, which is old for dogs in general but many Jack Russells live as long as she did. She came into my family when I was 29 years old, a life-time ago.

Another Inauguration

I went to Bill Clinton's first inauguration and wrote about it.

Beautiful Surf Last Sunday

I was at Seabright beach Sunday afternoon and could see swells at Steamer Lane like I have never seen before. The sea was visibly rising off the lighthouse and you could see the curls. Apparently this was an amazing day for surfing.

The Power of Forgiveness

At his arraignment, a local woman publicly forgave the man who killed her husband. He hit their car head-on. Drunk from an afternoon at the Trout Farm. Try to read this without weeping.

Wit

Usually, I don't watch the Cobert Report, but I do try to catch Dan Savage when he's on TV.

Harsh

Every month, the UCSC Police department publishes a crime summary (pdf). The summary for October included: "Three affiliates were arrested for misusing parking placards." ARRESTED. I can understand that if you get caught doctoring your scratch-off you'd be fined, and TAPS would tell you you can never, ever park at UCSC until the end of time. But arrested. Wow. I wonder what the story is there. This is the...

Bookish Women

I put a "Reading is Sexy" sticker on my truck a few months ago, and this weekend I found this image collection of women reading, clearly proof that I'm not the only one who feels that seeing a woman read is beautiful and sensual.
